Welcome Party at Moxy Hotel | Rockstar Energy Open 2024

“DRINK UP!” read the board at the Moxy Hotel as guests entered the Rockstar Energy Open welcome party on Thursday night. Stacked with homies and heavies alike, the hotel lobby slash bar at the Moxy Hotel in downtown Portland was loaded with professional skateboarders, snowboarders, industry executives and allll their friends to celebrate the weekend to come.

Following a day full of athlete registration and practice, in typical fashion it was time to kickback and catch up with everyone after having settled in. The general impression on the day, “fun.” Most agreed, following the last two years of overly formal sporting events, the vibes felt all day during practice was relaxed and refreshing.

“With all the Olympic stuff, I feel like we haven’t had a good hang out, a good homie session in way too long. But here, even the hotel vibes here are rad,” said Clay Kreiner earlier in the day. And sure enough, the night was just as described.

From across the street you could see the crowd buzzing around the front door of the Moxy as people hung out in the fresh air. The likes of Keegan Palmer, Cory Juneau, Chris Joslin, Braden Hoban, Tristan Rennie and Kreiner were holding it down and setting the tone outside–catch up with the homies and enjoy the PDX scenery while we have it.

Once you entered the building, though, you saw that the place was packed despite all the available space in the industrial layout of the ground floor.

On the opposite side from the front door were food, a DJ and a silent auction taking place for Boarding 4 Breast Cancer. But before you could reach the other side you first had to sift through the likes of professional snowboarder Jill Perkins, freestyle moto man Colby Raha, legendary skateboard Omar Hassan (who will be on the mic this weekend and got ahold of an ukulele last night), and a list of VIPs that is too long to share.

If you weren’t there, you missed out.
