Skateboarding
Welcome to Part 2. If you missed part 1, start here.
Rejoin Chris Joslin for more intimacy into his life as an adult. Becoming a pro skater, raising two children and everything else that comes with growth. Including a lot of pain.
Some of it is more difficult than others. Being a father, for example, is incredibly difficult because it changes you on so many levels. For Joslin, though, that isn’t even the hard part.
“The hard part is the never ending aspect of it… those kids look up to your for the rest of your life,” says Joslin, admitting the challenges of becoming a parent. “Anytime outside of skating, if I’m slacking off, they are going to see that.”
So he asks the natural question of, “knowing you’re not perfect, you’re human and you’re going to make mistakes: How do you translate those mistakes into lessons?”
See how Joslin has turned life’s challenges into opportunities for him and his family. Hear how he leads by example and the work ethic his grandma and others instilled in him. And find out how his view on the Olympics took a 180 from the quote below to becoming the Olympian he is today.
“The freedom has been kind of taken away,” described Joslin of the requirements for skateboarding to become an Olympic sport. Looking at at what initially drew him to skateboarding had clearly changed. “There was no rules. There was no coach. It was all up to us.”
That’s right, his views have since changed.
“Maybe it was a pride thing.”
