Skateboarding
First he earned his invitation to the Rockstar Energy Open by submitting footage to the Video Qualifier Series, then Steven Vasquez skated his way through the On-Site Qualifier and Semifinal to make it all the way into the Final. The 18-year-old from Los Angeles came correct in Portland, rocking at least a little bit of camo everyday in the Pacific Northwest.
To top things off, Steven nearly stole the show during the Best Trick event. He was awarded the “Best Time” as dubbed by Nixon to win a watch to drip in recognition of everything he dropped. A true heelflip master, Steven flicked multiple onto the massive bump-to-ledge into a few grinds, before taking a bunch of tricks in and out of the 5-flat-5 double-set handrail. “I was just flowing, having a good time.”
Steven Vasquez talks us through the entire experience while we relive it with the footage in this episode of First Person.
