Sam Taxwood: Preserving Snowboarding Through Video & Terrain | Portraits

Riding all terrains in snowboarding is what Sam Taxwood grew up on and has undeniably shaped his riding style today. From early days lapping street spots to charging bigger mountain terrain, Sam’s love for snowboarding has always been rooted in riding everything. While his first video parts were street-driven, the time he spent on his board prepared him for terrain beyond urban areas.

Growing up riding with childhood friend Gabe Ferguson, and later connecting with riders like Nik Baden, pushed Sam to evolve his approach and perspective. Always learning how to read backcountry terrain, he continues to refine how natural features translate into the best possible riding and ultimately on camera. For Sam, video projects are an open canvas—essential to preserving snowboarding’s culture and documenting its constant evolution. Sam touches on all this and more in his latest Portraits video, diving into the quintessential pillars of snowboarding and what keeps them alive.
