Snowboarding
In this episode of Portraits, Brandon Davis tells the story of his upbringing—from a desert childhood to the peaks of backcountry terrain.
Raised in Bullhead City, Arizona till the age of five, Brandon didn’t grow up with snow outside his window. Not until moving to Big Bear Lake, California, did he find his footing through skateboarding, and soon after lock in on one goal at just seven: become a pro snowboarder.
Getting there took commitment. So much so that at 14, Brandon convinced his dad to move closer to Mammoth, where he could progress on bigger terrain, compete on weekends, and chase his dream. The move led to a career in slopestyle, riding for the U.S. Snowboard Team, and podium results.
“It’s nice to have contest results and it's almost like a stamp of approval, but it doesn’t quite match up longevity-wise what footage can do.”
Contests were only one aspect of his snowboard career, and these days he can be found filming in the backcountry alongside snowboarders like Raibu Katayama, Gabe Ferguson, and Mikey Ciccarelli. For Brandon, snowboarding is about style and the way you interpret the mountain, friendships and road trips, and the unforgettable sessions that will last a lifetime. A reminder of the lifestyle snowboarding can provide beyond the results sheet.
