Lazer Crawford Wins Men’s Street Final Photos + Highlights | RSEO 2024

Rockstar Energy's Lazer Crawford taking the win while in the best seat in the house.

It was PACKED for the Men’s Street Final from the bleachers to the VIP tower areas and even the nearby trees, the people of Portland were excited to see the top 10 skaters from the semifinal return to take on even longer runs for even more mayhem.

FORMAT: 10 skaters, each taking three one-minute runs. Best score counts.

After a couple switch-ups to the lineup following a minor injury and another travel issue, Chris Joslin became the next in line to join the final following his result in the semifinal. The crowd couldn’t be happier.

Joslin appears to be the crowd favorite and for good reason, he held nothing back but with a bail he’d need another attempt.

Next up was Braden Hoban, who by the end of his run may have won everyone over as the new fan-favorite. He definitely won Joslin over who was slapping his board on the coping in reaction to ending his run with an impossible down the 3-block.

The crowds were so thick it was difficult to see who was mixed shoulder to shoulder with the rest. In the Rockstar Energy VIP area, though, a few familiar faces could be spotted such as freestyle moto rider Colby Raha, BMX riders Chad Kerley and Denis Enarson, as well as Lazer Crawford’s dad, Mike, was spotted up top. Mike was receiving shoutouts from the announcers, industry insiders and everyone else that saw his most recent tattoo in honor of his son’s newest sponsor—the Rockstar star on the back of his head. If there was a contest for most supportive dad, Mike would win the award without doubt.

For Joslin’s final run it all came together. After the back 360 to flat from the bump off the 2-block he did a pressure flip for good measure as the buzzer Randle and then held up his skateboard for all to see “g-ma” written on his griptape. (Check out Joslin’s episode of Portraits released last month.)

Braden threw his hands up in contempt when Joslin’s score landed in fourth, beneath his own in third. The level of skating was as high as the camaraderie.

“It’s way more exciting,” said Braden from the side of the course of the inaugural Rockstar Energy Open. “It’s a lot different from any of the Street Leagues or Olympic Qualifiers. The way they put this together from the crew, the people invited and especially the people running—they nailed it with this one.”

“It’s been a great weekend! Thank you everyone! I can’t wait for more!”

A few skaters later came the ultimate show stopper, Lazer Crawford. Despite this being his first-ever official professional contest and being the newest member of the Rockstar Energy skate team, he handled the course and the crowd like a true veteran. Lazer nearly jumped into the crowd with joy but refrained and gave high-fives. Then he went across the course and then climbed up to the Rockstar Energy VIP zone to hug his father and wait for the highest score of the day to drop next to his name.

Nobody disagreed, the entire place turned to thunder as skaters and fans roared in approval of the best score of the day, 92.48.

“It’s been an insane weekend! I’m on the top of the world. I feel like I’m dreaming,” said Lazer once he stepped away from the award ceremony. “From filming and street skating, to being around pros, being nervous in competition and not landing my tricks to then somehow pulling it off—it’s been a rollercoaster but I’m going home happy! Rockstar Energy Open 2024 we’re here, let’s GO!”

Afterward he took a Rockstar Energy shower thanks to Braden who repeated to pour can after can of Rockstar on Lazer while the crowd chanted his name repeatedly. Then he crowd surfed on them. Literally. The weekend couldn’t have closed out on a higher buzz. See you next time!
