Chris Joslin Talks the Making of his Latest Video Part Joyce

Not all video parts are created equal. Take Chris Joslin’s Joyce part, for example—five minutes of straight hammers, all dedicated to the woman who raised him: Joyce LaVerne Joslin, his grandmother. Nothing about this part was typical—especially the skating. To make things even more difficult, the entire part was filmed overseas in Barcelona, Spain. When asked what it took to make it all come together, his response was clear: “Every trip was a process.”

Joslin dives into the details of the work that went on behind the scenes. He had to book multiple trips—flights, hotels, rental cars, tour guides, photographers, and filmers. Then there was the effort that went into the tricks themselves—none of which were filler. Some took hours, even multiple days, to land. Others, miraculously, came first try (like the 18-stair backside lipslide!).

“When you’re going to push yourself to a new limit, you have to mentally beat yourself up,” says Joslin. “To the point where you’re like, ‘Fuck it, I’m going to try this no matter what happens.’”
