Snowboarding
Go inside the goal-oriented mind of Mikey Ciccarelli and find out how he approaches the art of creating a snowboard video part. Once known for his slopestyle and big air competition accomplishments, Mikey has moved on to the backcountry—as evidenced by his recent full part, Return.
For Mikey, making a trick list each year is critically important. It keeps the motivation high and the project on schedule because you’re always yearning to check off that next trick. Inevitably, though, there is always one trick (at least) that requires a battle. During the filming of Return, it was the double backside rodeo 1080. After taking two toe-side slams to full frontal scorpions, Mikey had to reevaluate.
Then there’s the weather factor. Mikey recaps a 30-40 day stint at Baldface Valhalla that only netted four days of filming. “My mindset is just trying to be patient,” says Mikey. He goes on to explain the feelings he’s chasing—from landing a trick, looking at the shot, putting it on the screen, hearing the people cheering, and ultimately getting them fired up to go snowboarding. “The whole world of that is what you’re chasing, and it can be a whole career.”
